Where does the heart of Las Vegas Riding Instruction come from?
Who is behind this operation? Zoe Deaton grew up in rural North Carolina with a longing to be on the back of a horse from the first time that she ever laid eyes on one as a little girl. When she was 5 years old, her father took her to her very first horseback riding camp, and the rest became history. Shortly after, she started taking horseback riding lessons and learning to show horses, and became addicted to learning everything there was to know about these powerful animals. If there was a book about horses, she wanted it, and the only toys she ever asked for were lifelike models of horses, Breyers. Horses became her life. As a teenager, she went to work for a cutting horse trainer, learning everything from teaching young horses to cut cows to desensitizing horses who needed a little extra time. At 16, Zoe and her father, Allen, moved to a dressage facility where Zoe spent time riding Warmblood event horses and buying and training horses of her own. Zoe has worked and shown at Regional and worked at National level horse shows for trainers like Ted Carson, Wendy Potts (Whistlejacket Farm), and Greg Harris (Harris Show Horses), where she learned to practice the behind-the-scenes of what makes a great horse just that- a great horse. An interview... Why Las Vegas? I came to Las Vegas with the intention of being an entertainer through music and art, but there isn't much I've been able to do to stay away from the horse industry. When I'm not out with the horses and my students, I spend most of my time singing, playing guitar, and writing music. I really just want to share joy. Really, though, why horses? I've acquired a wealth of knowledge through literature and real life experience with training and showing horses, and I just want to share what I know. I love people. I love show horses just as much as I love trail horses. I know what horses have done for me, how they have healed me, and I know what they do for other people. I simply love teaching and making people smile... it's what I'm meant to do. Do you teach English or Western? I work with every horse and rider combination as individuals. The basics of my training program takes pieces from my dressage and working western training to best develop the mind and body of horse and rider. I have both English and western lesson horses available. Is it just you? I'm really glad you asked! I work with some really great people... it is NEVER "just me." Anything else we should know? I work out of the NW side of Las Vegas. I teach people the mechanics of the mind and body of the horse, which, in turn, opens up a window for their own health and wellness, too. I connect these ideas to create not only a picture of beauty and wellness, but a reality of it! |
